Application of Genetic Algorithm to Optimize Location of BRB for Reinforced Concrete Frame with Curtailed Shear Wall

The shear walls are essential seismic elements to increase buildings bearing capacity against earthquakes. In mid- and high-rise buildings, subjected predominant bending deformation under earthquakes, the responses in upper floors increase. order utilize appropriately, previous studies proposed install until a certain building level, referred as curtailed wall. However, frame structure without suffered significant during earthquakes compared lower stories. Therefore, objective of this study is present structural configuration for with by installing buckling-restrained braces (BRBs) reduce its Firstly, analysis accuracy was verified simulating experimental results four sets scaled frames tested on shaking table. Then, ten- twenty-story plane different heights were created, their nonlinear earthquake ground motions evaluated. genetic algorithm applied establish optimum BRB locations satisfy design criteria. It proved that using BRBs at specific can significantly improve response walls.
